Neural modeling of synchronized bursting events
نویسندگان
چکیده
In vitro neuronal networks are known to exhibit synchronized bursting events (SBE), during which most of the neurons in the system spike within a time window of approximately 100 ms. Such phenomena can be obtained in model networks based on Markram–Tsodyks synaptic dynamics. We point out that in order to account correctly for the detailed behavior of SBEs several modi7cations have to be implemented in such models. Random input currents have to be introduced to account for the rising pro7le of SBEs. Introducing inhomogeneity in the distribution of neuronal thresholds and resistances we 7nd that we are able to describe the pro7le of activity within the SBE and the heavy-tailed distribution of inter-spike interval and inter-event interval. Thus we can account for the interesting appearance of Levy distributions in the data. c © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Modeling of Synchronized Bursting Events: The Importance of Inhomogeneity
Cultured in vitro neuronal networks are known to exhibit synchronized bursting events (SBE), during which most of the neurons in the system spike within a time window of approximately 100 msec. Such phenomena can be obtained in model networks based on Markram-Tsodyks frequency-dependent synapses. In order to account correctly for the detailed behavior of SBEs, several modifications have to be i...
متن کاملSpatiotemporal clustering of synchronized bursting events in neuronal networks
in vitro neuronal networks display Synchronized Bursting Events (SBEs), with characteristic temporal width of 100-500 ms and frequency of once every few seconds. We analyze such data using preprocessing by SVD for dimensional reduction, after which we apply quantum clustering to sort out the SBEs into different groups. Each SBE is described within a spatiotemporal template, allowing us to disti...
متن کاملIdentification of feedback loops in neural networks based on multi-step Granger causality
MOTIVATION Feedback circuits are crucial network motifs, ubiquitously found in many intra- and inter-cellular regulatory networks, and also act as basic building blocks for inducing synchronized bursting behaviors in neural network dynamics. Therefore, the system-level identification of feedback circuits using time-series measurements is critical to understand the underlying regulatory mechanis...
متن کاملPersistent synchronized bursting activity in cortical tissues with low magnesium concentration: a modeling study.
We explore the mechanism of synchronized bursting activity with frequency of approximately 10 Hz that appears in cortical tissues at low extracellular magnesium concentration [Mg2+]o. We hypothesize that this activity is persistent, namely coexists with the quiescent state and depends on slow N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) conductances. To explore this hypothesis, we construct and investigate a co...
متن کاملCoemergence of regularity and complexity during neural network development.
With the growing recognition that rhythmic and oscillatory patterns are widespread in the brain and play important roles in all aspects of the function of our nervous system, there has been a resurgence of interest in neuronal synchronized bursting activity. Here, we were interested in understanding the development of synchronized bursts as information-bearing neuronal activity patterns. For th...
